I’m really stoked that you’re here…really!  This blog is all about my journey from working for “the man” as a wildlife biologist, to quitting a job six months into it, to learning how to be an online entrepreneur….oh, and about how I wrote a fiction novel…and started two businesses, too.  Am I doing too much?

Open the notebook and find out.

A little back story:

In February 2015, my husband Ricky and I packed up and made a cross-country move from Virginia to California.  It was the biggest adventure we ever took a risk on!  I had been offered a job, and we decided to jump on it, despite the San Francisco Bay Area being the most expensive in the country, and despite Ricky not having a job, and us not even having a place to live yet.  But we did it anyway, and everything started to click into place.  Nevertheless, I found myself really unhappy.  It wasn’t homesickness.  I was unfulfilled and unchallenged at work, and I had this sinking feeling that I was on the wrong path in life.  I craved passion and purpose at work, I wanted freedom to experience more of life, and I was full of creative energy that never got to be utilized.  I decided I actually have a choice in that matter, and so I have embarked on a journey of self-discovery to find my passion, and to turn it into a career.

But then I finally learned something else about myself: I’m not meant to have just one career path or just one “calling”.  This is simply impossible for some of us.  And you know what?  That’s ok, and I am NOT alone!  Discovering that I don’t have to just pick ONE of my passions was so liberating.  I’ve settled on a couple career ideas to try, with the intention that one thing will continue to lead to another throughout my life, and that I never have to just “be” one thing.  I can be me, with all my many sides!

Why “Blue Spiral Notebook”?

I was sitting at my desk trying to think of a good name for my blog.  Something that wasn’t too specific, but that had meaning.  I realized I was staring at something right in front of me…something that is almost always in front of me or nearby…and it’s this darned little blue girly-looking Five Star spiral notebook that I’ve had for about 7 years now.  It has always been my “interesting” notebook.  It’s never been used for work, or general notes, or anything serious or routine.  It’s always been the one I grab when I want to take notes on an exciting idea, or for an online class I’m taking for fun, or notes for a job I’m interested in, and plenty of other personal development uses.  It’s sort of been my “book of possibilities”.  And so I associate it with positive thinking, with excitement and innovation, creativity, and self-honesty.  This blog is turning out to be an extension of my sweet little blue spiral notebook, and so that’s how it got its name!
